Meristem

The brief for 20a Gerrard Road was clear. This was to be a modern “customer facing” building housing five business units and requiring space for over 100 employees. There would be open offices, private offices, meeting rooms, HNI lounges and other support spaces.

Our goal was to bring clarity, simplicity, functionality and consequently a certain serenity to the fast-paced, high-intensity work environment of the financial services industry. Productivity and comfort are simultaneously addressed in all spaces from Executive offices to meeting lounges. Community and camaraderie are encouraged by break-out seating areas, outdoor terraces, a gym and sports lounge, and a wellness suite.

Inspired by the company name Meristem - named after the tissue in plants which is the source of all new cells which lead to growth - it was important to provide areas of nature to communicate expressions of living and growth. This comes through in the abundance of foliage and planters incorporated in the open plan offices, workstations, and the resplendent welcome one receives in the reception at the site of the stunning double-story preserved moss wall in the reception.

The foliage is balanced and complemented by natural and neutral colours and materials, while the theme of growth is further emphasized in the careful curation of decorative light fixtures.

This building speaks the language of NAS Design Studio. It is an expression of our client’s culture and values through our eyes.
